As we enter the crucial period of soybean and corn harvests this fall, I’d like to highlight some key details from our manual that can truly enhance your harvest process, especially concerning cooling the grain effectively while maintaining the desired moisture levels.

Understanding Harvest Heat

One of the central topics our manual covers is what we've termed "Harvest Heat." This process is essential for those of you who are dealing with hot grain straight from the dryer or field, typically more than 75 degrees. Our goal is to cool the grain for storage as rapidly as possible while minimizing shrinkage.

Step-by-Step Cooling Process

To achieve optimal results, here’s what you need to do with your Sentry Pac Pro™ system:

1. Mode Setting: Set your system to rewet mode.

2. Temperature Limit: Set the upper temperature limit to be 10 - 15 degrees cooler than the daytime temperature. For instance, if the daytime temperature is around 70 degrees during harvest, you should set it between 55 and 60 degrees.

3. Moisture Setup: Align the system's moisture setting to the current grain moisture content. Whether the grain is coming out of a dryer or straight from the field and needs cooling without shrinkage, aim for settings like 15.5% or 16% - matching the moisture content when it exits the dryer. This configuration ensures the fans operate whenever the conditions are above the temperature limit and align with the moisture setting. In arid climates, you might need to tweak the moisture setting downward to allow sufficient runtime for effective cooling.

Post-Cooling Adjustments

Once cooling is complete, raise the moisture content setting to your preferred level within the selected storage modes. This step ensures your grain is cool enough without excessive drying.
